Standing Elk Lodge
Nestled at 4,000 ft. on a mountain ridge, Standing Elk Lodge is your perfect home away from home for large families and multi-family vacations. Our luxury cabin is located in Smoky Mountain Retreat, a private, gated community just minutes from everything that Maggie Valley and Waynesville has to offer. The interior of our oak log home is beautifully decorated with plenty of space for everyone in nearly 5,000 sq. ft. From our decks and porches you can see amazing long range mountain views, Lake Junaluska and wildlife up close and personal or stay inside and enjoy relaxing, or playing pool or Foosball.
PLEASE READ BEFORE RESERVING: NO MOTORCYCLES OR SLINGSHOTS ARE ALLOWED IN THIS COMMUNITY.
First floor (main level): There are two master bedrooms, each with a king bed and its own bathroom (garden/jacuzzi tub + shower) and private access to gorgeous views from the upper back deck.
Kitchen, dining room, half bath, and a family room with floor to ceiling windows and amazing mountain views. Gas fireplaces, washer/dryer.
Second floor (Upper level): Loft with pool table, Peloton Cycle, sleeper sofa and area for relaxing and playing games. Including an entry door to a covered porch.
Third floor (Lower level): Queen bedroom, Second bedroom with 2 twin beds (with 2 trundles) and full bathroom. Entry from the 2-car garage, second family room equipped with a bar, refrigerator, Foosball Table, Bumper pool/poker/game table and comfortable seating to relax and watch TV.
Your morning at Standing Elk Lodge begins with a cup of coffee and gorgeous sunrise views from the back porch. Spend your day exploring, hiking, rafting, kayaking, horseback riding, or shopping in Maggie Valley, Waynesville or Asheville. After a day of exploring or relaxing in the house, enjoy a meal prepared in our fully stocked kitchen or fire up the gas grill on the deck while soaking in the scenery.
3 Night Minimum Stay
Nightly Rate: $360 Weekly rate: $2,320
Holidays: 5-7 Night minimum stay; July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years: $470 nightly, $2820 weekly.
11% Tax applied to rent. Optional 6.5% Travel Insurance applied to rent.
$50 Damage Protection Plan ($3,000 of Insurance). (Non-refundable)
$65 Reservation Fee (plus Tax)
$300 Cleaning Fee
No Pets Allowed
Internet Speed: The provider is SkyRunner. The speed is 10mb down and 5mb up.
The Smoky Mountain Retreat at Eagle’s Nest subdivision does not permit motorcycles or trailers on the mountain.

Cabin was wonderful! Great location and beautiful views. Over the past 13 years we've stayed in lots of wonderful cabins with Smoky Mountain Retreat and Standing Elk was the cleanest one yet. All have been clean but this one was extremely clean! My teenagers loved the pool table, billiards and Peloton. We had a relaxing stay!

Breathtaking views overlooking valley and Lake and surrounding mountains. Comfortably furnished executive style log cabin. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for our large extended family. Kitchen a tight fit for large group but well equipped but we brought our own Kuerig. First trip up from Soco Rd daunting for Floridians; but easily driven after that. 8 minute trip from main hwy to house. driveway more challenging for 3 cars but doable by using the garages. Close to everything - waynesville, golf courses, fishing, National park, restaurants, etc. we had a great experience with the cooler temps we hoped for.

I booked two houses with Smoky Mountain Retreat for our family reunion in June 2022. We had a great experience with both houses. The houses were large enough for people to spread out and not always be on top of each other - the games in the houses also helped with this! The bedrooms were large and comfortable. There were plenty of bathrooms which were well equipped. The jacuzzi bubble bath with mountain views in the Standing Elk Lodge was a huge hit! We had an amazing stay and will for sure book again when in the area!

For the past 25 years my husband and I, and 2 of his Army buddies and their wives, get together for a long weekend in the mountains. We love the Maggie Valley area. We stayed at Standing Elk this time and loved the mountain home! Unfortunately, we did not get to experience the fantastic views since it was very foggy and rainy. We would definitely come back again!

Amazing home and views. had a great visit. a few minor issues you should know about... fireplace remote for the main room was no where to be found. The downstairs fireplace did not have the pilot light lit. Needed help getting them working the morning after arrival. Also, different documents indicated different procedures for handling trash. One indicated we should carry all trash to the dumpster at the base, other indicated just needed to carry overflow trash that did not fit in the trash cans. Recommend making sure arrival docs match up with information left in the house.

We enjoy this magnificent home every fall and sometime summer with our family. We drive from Florida and others drive down from Pennsylvania for a reunion that fuels our hearts & soul. The morning g sunrise is spectacular from all the rooms and porch. The spacious and comfortable bedrooms for 8-10 are more than adequate. Lots of fun with pool table, fooseball, games and books!

We stayed at Standing Elk for 13 days in June/July during the Covid-19 Pandemic. We loved the serenity of the cabin and the astonishing views of Lake Junaluska. We even got to see a surreal fireworks display right from the balcony. We loved watching the birds come every day to the feeder. We also got to know “Shamus” who is a baby squirrel that was easily able to bypass the feeder’s defenses. “Squirrlo” and “Skinny” skim the deck floor for any dropped seeds around 2pm. They never even tried to get any directly From the feeder. “Chris” and his buddies (small flying NC squirrels, show up at night and will eat everything by morning). We took the feeder in at night after we figured out what was going on. We also loved the high chairs that make it easy to sit outside and see over the rail. The internet was as expected on the mountain and we had about 2-3 bar cell service using At&t. The street the cabin is on is one of the few that are walkable up there (not too steep from the gate to the top). We’ve stayed at about 6 cabins and love all the ones on this street. We baked and had plenty of cooking supplies - we did bring some of our own too.
Overall, our stay was just what we needed and was a nice disconnect from what is happening in the world these days. We would have stayed longer without question. The view and our new buddies Shamus and Chris will live in our memories for a long time. Serenity Now!

A family of 11 is not easy to find a rental cabin to accomodate us all but Standing Elk met and exceded our expectation. Love the location, eht view, the gas fireplace, the two master bedroom. The kitchen was generously stocked with all sorts of pots and pan. 1st time cooking with gas stove and loved it.
Only suggestion would be a larger bed downstairs - a bit small for two adults. Otherwise the cabin was great.

We had a wonderful time in our rental home. Tons of room, beautiful views, and we got snow. We made great memories and thorough enjoy our time in the mountains. We've rented from Smoky Mountain Retreat before and continue to be happy with their services. They were very helpful with regard to the snow and making SC girls who are that accustomed to snow feel safe. The staff is always courteous and accommodating.
We enjoyed a great breakfast at Joey's (one of our favorites). They have the best hashbrown casserole EVER! Butts on the Creek is always a stop for us for brisket. Yummy!
